Hi,
I am a computer engineer and have worked in multimedia domain for quite sometime. I would be delighted to do some development for the videolan project. I would specially be interested in some streaming development work. Please let me know where to start from?

you might want to write to the mailing list vlc-devel@videolan.org , or come on irc.freenode.net #videolan , the irc channel where most developers are hanging around, also the main developer of the network code.
