Google Summer of Code 2025

Hello!

My name is Arthur, and I'm currently in my 3rd semester of Software Engineering at university in Brazil.

I noticed that VideoLAN has participated in recent editions of Google Summer of Code, so I imagine the organization will also take part in 2025.

I've been interested in joining GSoC and contributing to open source software even before starting university. Since I’m still a beginner in programming, preparing in advance will be crucial for me to come up with a good proposal.

Swift programming language has been my focus over the past few months, so I’d love to work on the VLC version for iOS.

The issue #1819 on the VLC-iOS issues list, about adding a limited kids mode, seems interesting and within my abilities, yet challenging and rewarding.

I believe this issue hasn’t been resolved yet, so I wanted to ask if adding a kids mode would be a good project to participate in GSoC 2025.

If so, I would love to know how I can find a mentor, so I can share my ideas and ask any questions I might have.

Lastly, is this forum the right place for this conversation, or should I look for another channel?
