I would love to help c++ css, jquery & js or anything

I have been a fan of your products for a long time, and I would be interested in helping.
I am a senior in a software development program at the Evergreen State College. I also have over 16 years in audio engineering and production (i know my way around audio.) I also have experience in css, jquery, html, javascript and some asp.
I don't mind doing something simple, but I can handle more complicated tasks as well, but I may need to research something as I am not familiar with all languages and libraries (who really is?)
If you think you can put me to good use, let me know. I have visual studio and the java dev plat. installed.
A few ideas for things I would be interested in would be vst integration or creating a control key mapping system so users can control video and audio with how they see fit and assign the menus most important to them, in hotkeys.
I'm ok with simply working in help files, commenting code, reorganizing data or whatever you need really. Hell, i would even go get you coffee and pick up your dry cleaning if you weren't based on another continent :)

Vlc is the most streamlined, format compatible audio/video player I have encountered. It would be an honor to assist with it.

I will keep my eyes on the forum for tasks if you don't have anything at the moment, but I thought I should introduce myself and offer a hand.

The same thing applies to me, although i dont have that long timespan of experience.
I'd like to contribute to the VLC player by implementing a "custom playlist" feature that would allow users to save and edit playlists
inside the VLC player and not only by saving it to external files. The left playlist window sidebar has all necessary functions to allow for
new playlists to be created and displayed, but it is simply not implemented yet. I first wanted to implemented the feature just for myself,
but i thought that this could be a function everyone wants, especially because this is a function that is included in all other state-of-the art
media players. (WMP, iTunes, Amarok, Tomohawk etc.)

So if there is anyone around who would give me some hints on creating patches (more hints than there are already in the wiki) and if this
task is actually useful, you are welcome to tell me!

@Tabby: i have some audio experience as well, what do meant by vst integration?

Vst is a plug in stadard used by audio engineers and digital audio composers. A few vst compatible workstations are cubase, ableton live, fl studio. They allow audio signal processing.
Image // <-this is one of my favorites
There are also a few of them than can remove hiss or hum, and these could allow certain libraries to work with them. Also they have the super cool ability to smoosh dynamics with compression. You know how you watch movies sometimes and you have to hover over the remote control to drop the volume when an action scene happens, but can barely hear when people talk? This is because the movie was mastered with high dynamics for theaters. Homebuilt documentaries become watchable when they are compressed sufficiently (the radio compresses all audio to extreme proportions before sending it over the airwaves.)
VLC includes a limiter and an eq, but such settings need to be adjusted together for maximum benefit.
Adding vst means vlc will be on every audio engineer's computer if it isn't already. VLC was my player of choice because it was quick to load and wasn't clunky like the other players. I have wanted vst capability in it for a long time.

Ah okay. I know what VST is, i used the SDK multiple times for small plugins (but unfortunately never went deeper into the stuff). So what you want is that VLC is capable of being a VST host application? Im not sure if this is possible, because of the non-open licensing of Steinberg. But the idea sounds good, especially when VLC is able to convert the videos while adding VST plugins, so that you can export your audio-compressed file...

Yes, we can make good use of you :)
I'm thinking of some audio filters, for example.

Come on IRC :)

I have been using vlc for a couple of years, thanks for the development team to maintain such a good tool.
I have been developing multi-thread programs for a half year with c++ in a company under windows development tools, such as visual studio.

I would like to help to maintain, such as documentation, or implement more features for this application.
Although I don't have many experience about software development, I still want to introduce myself and offer a hand.

Compile VLC first

I am using VMWave with a client OS Ubuntu 15.04.
I compiled it successfully. Since I don't know where to start, I started to read those Makefile.am and configure.ac files to understand the structure of this project.

As this is not a small project and I am new to those tools and project structure, my progress is slow ~"~

If you already compiled vlc yourself, you should really talk to other devs. Join us on IRC and/or on the vlc-devel mailing list.

You don't want to waste your time with Makefile.am and configure.ac at the beginning.

A simple "Hello! I already compiled vlc and want to help" and some patience (there are quiet times on IRC when answers may even take hours, but you can try again at later times) is all it takes.
