And i had to disable hardware acceleration in directx to get video working..

Hope this helps in any way.

jwhenever i open a video i get a white screen too,
but when i use the hotkeys for increasing or decreasing the volume of vlc
the video is playing perfectly, even on my 2nd screen
when i let ctrl+up arrow or down arrow loose again the screen turns white again

i can watch a movie full without errors/problems neither in windows and in vlc but i have to keep the hotkeys pressed for the entire movie long and i see a white bar at right side of the video, the volume bar

I tried the overnight builds and none of them work on my pc. I get errors when I open up preferences and all the options are blank, nothing is there to select default. Not even the drop down is there at all.

vlc-0.9.0-svn-20070123-0001-win32
Vista Ultimate Edition 32bit RTM
Athlon64 X2 4400+
ATI Radeon x800 XL with Catalyst 7.1 for Vista drivers

DirectX 3D, hardware YUV->RGB on: Pretty pastels that fade and run together, DWM works.

DirectX 3D, hardware YUV->RGB off: Video looks good, DWM works!

DirectX video output: video playback works but DWM is disabled.

OpenGL: Very slow framerate, DWM works.

GDI: Ugly blocky video, DWM works.

I should add that if UAC kicks in for any reason (you go to install some software, or delete a file that needs administrator access), VLC crashes.

vlc-0.9.0-svn-20070123-0001-win32
Vista Ultimate Edition 64bit RTM
Core 2 Duo @ 3.6GHz
GeForce 8800GTX

Works great so far with DirectX and OpenGL, though I couldn't jump in one of the two x264 clips I played. Might just have been something wrong with that clip.

Vista version: Vista Business x86, Build 6000, Final
VLC version: 0.9.0-svn-20070126-0001
Graphic Card model: ATI 1950XTX
Graphic Driver version: 8.31.100.321

Tested:
DirectX 3D Video Output: No picture, just sound. Picture stays black

DirectX Video: Video runs just perfect, but: It doesn't scale. Changing the window size will give just a smaller piece of the picture. Also Aeroglass gets deactivated

ASCII: Just the same as with DirectX 3D Video, no picture

OpenGL: Sound will play, but picture stays white. But just with .TS-Streams, everything else will play just fine.

Standard: Won't give a real picture, just some color flickering, no matter which file I try to play. Sound works fine.

Windows GDI: Video plays, Sound plays, scaling works, BUT: VERY VERY poor image quality, on .TS-Streams you get kind of a grid that lays above the image. Anyhow, this only happens in window-mode. In Fullscreen-Mode I don't have the grid, except for very fast motions, then I get blocking with blocks just the size of the grid, not the typical "blocking" due to compression.

On startup of VLC, the Messagebox states the non-existing files posted previously. Opening x264-Files gives the error-message "No accelerated IMDCT transform found", but the video still plays.
On 1080i I get only an almost smooth playback, 1080p works perfect (in regards of framerate).

Every file tested plays fine on PowerDVD.

@ecaffeine: try changing the Video Output Module in the preferences.
