Thanks and how to add features.

Postby GusCE6 » 14 Dec 2017 21:43

First of all, a HUGE thank you to the VLC programmers. Version 2.8 allows the old Sony to play YouTube nicely, so it is things like that which keep electronics out of landfills.

Again, great work!

I would like to learn how to program extra features for the VLC Player. I have a sort of "frame dropper" in mind so it can stream and play larger-than-normal videos. When I use the Sothink Video Converter to cut the frame rate down by half earlier devices can handle the videos albeit at a slight cost in smoothness. Websites that have no less than 360p or 480p videos could thus be streamed.

I have computer and website design experience- can anyone help me get started?

Thanks!

Hello again.

First, again thank you to the folks at VLC for continuing to work on this project, thwarting Youtube's efforts to make people's lives more difficult. I noticed an increasing number of error messages when trying to stream via VLC 2.8, even on the mighty ASUS, but so far 3.0 seems to do the trick.

And an especial compliment for making it compatible with earlier Operating Systems, such as XP. Again, anyone can put up posters or preach about the environment and Earth Day, but here someone is actually DOING something useful about it.

I am sorry for the delay, but a death in the family late last year delayed responses.

I am still interested in donating but do not have Paypal or a credit card (bad experiences as a kid in the 1970s). Is there a Paypal gift card one can get so I can donate?

I am also interested in programming features for the VLC Player. This would mainly include a video "frame dropper" so weaker devices can stream videos with larger resolutions, like 360p and 480p. But I need information and tools to start- once I get that, trust me, I can likely do it.

Thank you all.

We do not need money. We need people who report bugs and tell other people to use VLC. :D
