Hello!
I've been developing JavaME BD-J for 5 years now as a hobby.
My biggest BD-J project will be released this December. It's a big Blu-ray eBook called "8-bit Memoirs" (8bitmemoirs.com), containing the equivalent of 250 pages of text, 5 hours of background music and 9 hours of video. I view it as a scene release for the retro enthusiasts. Currently in betatest phase.
I have tested this project on countless of different hardware Blu-ray players (and found the weirdest bugs along the way). And now I'm proud to say that it actually runs everywhere.
I also test the project on software players like VLC, and can report that it runs nicely with VLC on both Windows and Linux, except a few issues. VLC lacks a POPUP MENU button (only exists on Blu-ray and is not the same as the TOP MENU button which is currently part of the VLC GUI and called MENU) and number-keys. Mouse-support would be nice too. And there seems to be an issue playing a playlist that contains multiple tracks: Jumps out of fullscreen for a while, then back to fullscreen, but only shows a black screen while the audio part does play though but neither video nor BD-J Xlet is shown.
I've tried offering my help on IRC, and also tried posting a few tickets in the bug-system, but I get a feeling there's not a whole lot of interest in my assistance. So I'm trying the forum here now as a final attempt at offering my help, because to my logic you should be interested in this:
If any VLC developer(s) out there is interested, I will be happy to snailmail you a disc of the betaversion of 8-bit Memoirs (which has been tested and runs on a ton of real Blu-ray players), if it can help out with development of VLC BD-J support. Just PM me your address, and it'll be on its way.
If we manage to get the project running in VLC without issues (and I really can't see why not since it's almost there), then VLC will of course be the software media player I refer to for those who wish to view it on Windows / Linux / Mac.
If there's still no interest in my assistance though, then I'll leave you alone and just refer to software players in general. That'll work for me too. It would just be much more cool to refer to VLC specifically I think.
Cheers!
