Why this forum ?

Postby Jean-Baptiste Kempf » 15 Dec 2006 00:40

Explanations of this forum
Why is there this new forum ?

As you might know, or not know, VideoLAN's team is a very short-staffed team, without any foundation, company, governement and money-giving guy.
There is no professionnal coder, programmer that is paid to develop VLC media player or the other projects.

So we need a lot of free time to address issue, to work, manage the machines, the websites, etc...

We are not able to do everything we want for the project. That is why, if you, users, fans, could help us, we could focus on our goal: Produce the best software

Therefore, people of the team will ask good will to help them on some very specific subjects and tasks. Thanks a lot for the help.

I have a request to the forum administrators: PLEASE CHANGE THE NAME OF THIS FORUM

Many people think that this \"Help the VideoLAN team\" means that the VideoLAN team will help you. thats why this is full of queries.

not all follow english.

the reason I posted this here is simple: the topic is \"why this forum?\" most are too lazy to read everything...

This is why I added the small reminder of the Forum rules in the red box. Isn't that enough?

not for 25% of the forum visitors...

and btw, not all will offer to help the VideoLAN team... only developers and people with brains will. how about having a seperate account for this forum? :?

A seperate account? Why would we need that? We don't want everyone's help. We just want everyone who might be able to notice that we need help :)

Btw, If you can think of a better forum category title, I might change it.

JVLC needs your help!

Postby Fictorine » 01 Aug 2007 10:03

Hello VLC Team!

I am a Telecommunication Engineering student who is working on a videoconference project. We need a multimedia library for Java so we were very happy when we found the JVLC project which focuses on the same things we are interested in. The problem we have is that we use Mac OS X and, as far as I know, there is not a Mac OS X port. So, I have decided to offer my help to the project in order to get a runnable JVLC Mac OS X port. I have a lot of time, some MacBook/MacBook Pro and a good team helping me.

I looked for a specific JVLC forum but I didn't find it, so I used this instead. Wouldn't be a nice idea a JVLC forum??? I know there is a lot of people interested in the project...

Finally, I would like to encourage all this people interested in JVLC. JVLC needs your help!

Quite easy, build a VLC, come to IRC, come to vlc-devel mailing list, propose some patches and profit! If you are a developer under Windows environment, that is great!

You find yourself in the "Contribute and help the VideoLAN project" section of the forum.

There is a big red warning that shows up when posting here. It says: "Please read the forum's rules carefully before posting. This forum should not be used to post VLC usage related questions."

So please put your help request in one of the appropriate sections.

I agree that indeed a name-change to this forum is a good idea. I also think that anything that isn't a related topic included in this forum should be dumped out of this forum into an appropriate forum. Do you have a forum administrator with time to do this? If not, I can be of assistance in this arena as well as developer, & documentation arenas.
