Wanting a portable VideoLAN that could run uninstalled off a USB flash drive, I had made a ticket as a request, and quickly found out that it could not work for many reasons. Then I discovered that VideoLAN already exists as a "portable app". But wanting that, plus the latest development nightly version (for Windows) I tried an experiment. I looked into the "portable apps" format: PORTABLEAPPDIRECTORYROOT\app\vlc, vlc being where the program itself is stored. I deleted everything in that folder, downloaded the latest nightly, and placed it all as it was into it. And, it works; profile information is kept in the data\settings folder still.
