[NONFREE] quakenet nonfree derivate of VLC

Postby Kelson » 24 Dec 2008 12:47

BluewinTV, the Swisscom IPTV solution, provides free mutlicasted channels for all of their VDSL clients.
Unfortunately, these channels are not readable with the standard VLC.

To resolve that issue, a Swiss developer has modified VLC and has build a new application based on the VLC code.
His website: http://www.quakenet.ch

My problems are :
(1) The new soft runs only with Windows.
(2) He does not have released the code.
(3) He seems not wanting to do it soon (no answer to my questions).

Does someone have an idea or can do something to improve the situation ?

Why cant the channels be viewed with VLC?

If he is using VLC, his code must be GPL'd.

I don't know what he exactly has done, the only things I know are:
* The standard VLC seems not able by me to read the streams (I'm a Bluewin client).
* He says in (http://www.quakenet.ch/swisscom/HiQ.pdf) that he has done a few modifications on VLC to make it works.
* In fact, the soft is VLC (take a look to the screenshot in the pdf).

It seams that's not a modifiied version of vlc. That's just a vlc with another process that receiv the stream and modify it before passing it to vlc... (get from the author)

So please detail the streams, or provide some dumps if you can.
