Thai subs showing up as strange symbols! Please help

Postby thaicook » 19 Jul 2009 11:12

Hi all, I'm new here so go easy on me please :D

I've done a search and have found nothing on this subject, maybe there is something on this forum about this problem...

I've found an .ssa file for a movie I want to watch, the .ssa file is Thai language but when I try to use it all I see are odd symbols, I suppose this must be something to do with language support on VLC but I can't find any options to allow thai script, do they exist?

Thanks in advance for your help or suggestions

thaicook:

2 things to check:

What's the encoding of your ssa file ? AFAIK, the libass library only support utf-8.

Is vlc picking a font that support thai ? look at the log of vlc in verbose mode = 2 and see what font it uses
