Due to using Japanese ver win XP, vlc is appearing Japanese, even though I asked for english in the DL procedure.
There is a little english in some sub-menus but pretty scant.
I'm after totally english, can this be remedied ?

I found a previous post talking about the sys language preferences overiding the VLC language preference, or more to point that VLC works with the os setting, So one sol'n is to change the os setting ... obviously overkill and not practical. Is there another way ?

viewtopic.php?f=17&t=43152

In fact I can't even find VLC preferences due to the menu being ion Japanese.
Can someone post screenshots of the steps to at least get there ?

I had the devil's own job finding it also.
1... SETTINGS (3rd line from the left)
2... Ctrl+S - this activates the Preferences.
3... Select INTERFACE (Bottom option)
4... "Language" appears on the right side of the control panel - scroll down and select to the one you want then hit "SAVE"

It took me 3 weeks to find this little rascal, but after sacrificing 7 virgins during the last full moon it all came to be.
VLC - please make this option more accessible.

When I installed the latest version, I chose the English install, but it installed in Japanese anyway on the menus, etc. I have a JP OS (WinXP). I managed to figure out how to change the menus to English:

Under Tools ツ--ル , click Preferences (Control P).
In the box that opens, on the right side at the top, there is the 2-kanji phrase that means "language".
-->from the pull-down list opposite, select US English
Then close VLC and reopen it. It should now have English menus.

Still. it would be nice to have it install in English when you request that!
cheers

The language you choose in the installer is only for the installer.
Patch eare welcome both to pass the installer pref to vlc and select a better language from win
