New 404 message on HTTP interface

Postby vinolencia » 27 Jan 2008 07:56

Howdy all,

A couple days ago my HTTP interface stopped working, and started to give me a 404 web error. This had never happened before, and the web interface always worked well - and I didn't do anything different to the program to change things. I also can't DISPLAY=:0 vlc anymore without the program hanging. Any ideas?

Yeah, I tried resetting the preferences, even rolling back to 0.8.5 but still no luck. This happened without me substantively changing anything... but since I messed with a couple things, I'm now getting this message:

[00000282] main interface: creating httpd
[00000282] main interface error: cannot bind socket (Address already in use)
[00000282] main interface error: cannot bind socket (Address already in use)
[00000282] main interface error: cannot create socket(s) for HTTP host
[00000282] http interface error: cannot listen on :8080
[00000282] main interface error: no suitable interface module
[00000001] main private error: interface "http, none" initialization failed

when I am trying to DISPLAY=:0 vlc. Does that help a bit...?

So do you get a 404 when you access:

Code: Select all

http://127.0.0.1:8080/
It looks like the default port 8080 is already in use. You could try starting the HTTP interface using a different port - for example:

Code: Select all

vlc -I http --http-host 127.0.0.1:8003
Where 8003 is the desired port number (127.0.0.1 is localhost).

Yeah man,

I tried the http port switch, both remotely and locally. With a remote attempt, I get:

[00000282] main interface: creating httpd
Error: Unable to initialize gtk, is DISPLAY set properly?

With a local attempt it hangs @

[00000282] main interface: creating httpd.

The thing is when I close VLC (no processes running) I still get the 404 error on that 127.0.0.1:8080. And, when I netstat | grep 8080 I get no results.

Thanks for taking the time to figure this out with me; any suggestions? Do I need to give y'all more information?
