need vlc plugin for mac os-x

Does anybody know if an experimental vlc plugin or something like that exists?
And if not, why??

Maybe in the future?

From the OSX download page (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html) : vlc-plugin-0.8.5.dmg. Works fine for me on 10.4...
