How to use Windows messages interface

It would be kind of you to leave them both, but if that is unacceptable, please choose which one to keep based on your opinion of which is more likely to be answered. Thank you.

When you enable All Options in Preferences (i.e., Advanced Preferences), under "Control interfaces", there's a checkbox labelled "Windows messages interface". If this is what it seems to me -- the ability to send Windows messages to VLC to control it programmatically -- I deeply wish to use it!

But I couldn't find any documentation on this interface. Google found some references to it, but all were opaque and didn't seem at all helpful.

Does anyone know more about this interface and how to use it, please?
