Any VLC media player release with NPAPI replacement

Postby pochunlai » 20 May 2016 03:51

Hi,
Since Chrome doesn't support NPAPI. Is there any plan on-going for NPAPI replacement like PPAPI? What is estimated schedule?

Thanks,

Jean-Baptiste gas indicated that there is PPAPI plugin in the works, but I don't have more information on that.

At the same time, I am curious as to what your use case is for the plugin, given the move towards standardisation around MP4 and WebM for streaming formats?
Providing logs, messages, configuration info (VLC, OS, Hardware) and a clear explanation of the issue always helps the problem solvers help you, even if they don't end up solving the issue. Just think what you would need if you were solving someone else's problem. Additional: Always looking for eager and capable MacOS X developers to join the VLC team - for more information see here.

Personally, I would use a VLC plugin because I have a need to stream AVCHD files, which VLC does wonderfully. Other solutions require me to transcode everything first.

Also, on a side note, I've noticed that VLC provides a smoother stream vs other solutions.

Not correct.
In Palemoon, you can define the NPAPI available....
But, the control is not more visible when VLC is activated via the VLC-plugin ... A pity
The video is launched locally, but you have no control on it. This was not the case with VLC V2.1
