Can ActiveX plugin be set to pause on last frame?

Hello
I'm trying to use the VLC ActiveX for a VB.Net application, but there's a behaviour that I'm hoping I can change.
I've got one movie file in my playlist (I'll always have a maximum of one movie in the playlist). When the movie plays, when it reaches the end of the movie, it goes black, the playlist empties, and the whole thing has to be reset and repositioned. I can repeatedly check for the 'stopped' state but then I have to reload the movie, pause it, and jump it to the end, which is clumsy and takes time.
What I'm hoping is that I can set the VLC object so that when it reaches the end of the movie (or the end of the playlist), it neatly pauses on the last frame, like QuickTime Player does.
Are there any parameters I can change that would make this possible?
Thanks
Stuart
