script to create playlist based on file date

This is probably something someone more skilled than I could with a single line of bash...
I'm looking for a easy way on the command line(OS X or Linux) to have a script that I can point at a folder, have it scan that folder and subfolders for specific media types(.wmv, .mp4, etc..) sort by date and create a playlist file that I can then open with VLC and the have newest files 1st. What would be even better would be an additional flag that would let me specify how many days I wanted to go back, so I could only get videos from the past 30days or so.
happy to paypal someone a few $$$ for helping me out here.
thanks,
