Subtitles loaded from SRT files

Postby mrz » 18 Mar 2015 22:13

Im trying to use the vlc.subtitle.* commands to view a list of subtitles and disable/enable specific ones but it doesnt seem to work for subtitles that are not embedded in the video file.

However, the VLC plugin seems to automatically pick up the first SRT file it sees and forces it to display and there doesnt seem to be a way to disable this behaviour.

Is there a future plan to allow control of SRT loaded subtitles?

Thanks

hello,

sorry for the late reply - I did not receive a notification of your response.

Ive just downloaded the latest release (2.2.0) but still no external subtitle support - is this the release you were referring to?

I was told about external subtitles support in WebChimera plugin. It's already implemented in the latest version (v.0.2.5).

This looks very promising, will check it out - thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

One final question, I see there is a Windows/Mac release, is there support for Linux (specifically Raspberry PI)?

Yes, it's implemented for linux, but there are no official PPA yet, only not official exists: https://launchpad.net/~s-lagui/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
With Raspberry PI it's little bit more complex - I didn't try it yet, but sure it will have problems since as I know there are problems with OpenGL in windowed mode there (WebChimera uses OpenGL for rendering).

Maybe somebody can help me. I just downloaded VLC for iOS (ver 2.5.0.)on my Ipad. I downloded a movie and also an SRT file for subtitle. How do I play the movie with the subtitle? I went the settings and there are different Text Encoding options. None for English. THX
