ActiveX install problem

Hi there,
Wanting to use the ActiveX control (in Matlab, though irrelevant). I did a full reinstall of VLC, just to be safe. (Platform is Windows 7 64 bit.) But the controls are not appearing normally in any list, with the ProgIDs and Descriptions set to strings of question marks.
I can see that the registry contains the following entries:
Any guesses what went wrong with the ActiveX installation? Is there a different way to install them?
