How do I print console, debug output in the activeX control

I'm aware of the way logging can take place when you run IE in a cygwin
shell.

The example of logging use a "vlc_object" -- is there a way to just write output to the console? How do I compose a vlc object (do I need to?)
Is there anything to read which explains this?

I want to make some changes to the activeX control and have a way to see its doing what I expect...
