axVLCPlugin21 - PC locks up when TV signal lost

Hi,
I am currently using the axVLCPlugin21 within a WPF application to show the stream from a TV tuner. It works perfectly 90% of the time and I can change channels without problem. However, the aerial I'm currently connected to has a patchy signal and when that signal drops for even a second the whole machine locks up and has to have a hard reset.

Is there any way I can put some kind of error handling around this or possible a setting in VLC I could tweak to deal with it? Any suggestions would be great!

The application is running on Windows 8 64bit if that makes a difference.
