Stop function bug

I have a continuous function that tells me the value of "vlc.input.state". For some reason, when I call the "vlc.input.stop()" function, vlc refuses to reach "vlc.input.state==6", according to my function that gives me the state value. it works when the video file just runs to the end, but not when I manually stop it. Any ideas?
