username/password

When I try to access http://192.168.1.xxx:1080 to try to open VLC in a browser, I get a box that asks for a user/password. where do I find this user/password or where do I put one in at. I am using a Linux OS and most of the files are located in /usr/share, but I don't see any kind of config file there.I got VLC from synaptic, so I didn't have to compile it. If I open another VLC player on another computer on the network it is working, but I want to access files over the internet with a web browser.thanks for any help.
