This is a concept skin for VLC, is a proposal for version 2.0. Currently only a concept and not to develop the skin
I welcome your comments:

Interesting concept... I wish we could do that...
Have you tested VLC 1.2, btw?

I don't see anything on that footage, that can't be realized with skins2 :) (even the windows controls)
I dont like the Firefox copy on the left top (it's even fail in firefox) and you may review the menu bar. Take the controls style for it. The Volume slider should have a bullet or "hands on" icon to show the user, he can do something there. The timeline slider icon should be bigger.

@JB: If i play with the QT designer, would you change to "i wish i had time for it"? :)

Yes, but not 100% of the screenshot.

Stop that stuff on the top left corner! Doh! (Try watch the Firefox Metrics on that idea :P)
That nesting is overkill and need to be re-designed in a more effective and intuitive way.

Finally, it would be enough if the player start just with a play, volume, eq, pl, file open control. Nothing else is needed until the player has some work. We don't need skip / search controls if nothing is playing. We even can't stop a file that isn't playing, but we may want to adjust the volume before playing the file. A file open control is needed, because the feature to open a file if nothing is playing on the play control isn't intuitive to anyone. We don't need a initial progress slider, timeline or file information at launch too. Should be: You see what has an effect to the current state.

I wish I could say something positive, but I really do not like anything about it. I do not like the quasi-Firefox button at the top. I do not like the redesign of the volume control, or how the fullscreen button is now to the right of it, a la web media players. I really do not like the new position of the play button, in the middle of the forward and backward buttons. Neither do I like the new "smoothed out" look of the buttons. In general, I would say that most of the changes I see seem to be directed at making VLC look like every other media player out there, when people who love VLC for being unique really do not want that.

If this model is used, I will not use version 2.0 of VLC.

Looking closely, what I do like about this is the title line above the progress slider. We also need a way to put subtitles in the black space under the movie, and not in within the film area itself. Thanks for your hard work. :)

Oh, and I also like the new look of the fullscreen button. Not it's position--just the new design of the button itself.

I would LOVE for someone to make this into a skin. It wouldn't even need the titlebar buttons if they weren't possible.
