Classic look - circa 0.8.6d

Hello everybody! So - I have questions and hopefully I'll be able to get things straightened out! :)

For years, I've been happily using VLC 0.8.6d (and it's been perfect) until some of my media doesn't like to be decoded at all (h.264 files) and VLC will crash. The only way around this is to update to a more recent version - but the look itself (interface) is bothersome and cumbersome. I'm VERY much hoping that there is a "skin" or way to have things adjusted so it simply looks, feels, and runs like the older version (i.e. no separate window for the video to play in, no GIANT menu bar with icons in the player controls, no subtitle popping up with the name of the file when first played, etc).

Any ideas? :)

That old interface has been discontinued because of various reasons (iirc it was to buggy and not comfortable to develop). The skins engine is too limited to reproduce the look and feel of that old interface. I think you have to live with the current interface or use some other skin. But the old interface is lost.

Truly not. Use the customize interface tool and use the "classic" profile

Jean-Baptiste.... if I understand your directions, I would simply go to "TOOLS > PREFERENCES > INTERFACE (tab)" and set the "Display Mode" to "Classic", correct? The trouble with this is that by default it's set to this mode.

Is there any way to scale-back the size of everything in the player? The default GUI is VERY large.

No. I meant, Tools->Customize interface
Profile: "classic"
Close.
