VLC Aero Skin

Postby Valmore » 24 Sep 2010 12:57

Um Hi...

Anyway, i had an idea to make an Aero theme for VLC but to be honest I have little idea how to go about it now.

Firstly:
I tried messing about with the skin editor to make an Aero effect without the blur in the transparencies just to discover that custom skins only supports 1 bit transparency (like a gif). So that put that out the window. (and on an added side note: The colour of the Aero window itself would also be static, not matching a custom selected Aero tint colour)

Secondly:
I did some reading about custom frames to extend the Aero area into the app but it appears that source code modification was in order, so i downloaded and attempted to decipher what I saw and ended up just getting completely lost. The other problem with directly modifying the source code (i think) would be a lack of easy portability between versions and dependency on Windows 7 to run correctly.

Soooo... If anyone has any suggestions as how to go about this then just drop a reply below (even better would be if someone would be prepared to code this and I'll just supply the necessary graphics), also comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Have some concept art that I threw together: :D

I'm not entirely happy with this (for example i don't like the play button atm) but if I get any interest then I'll put some more work into it.

I got distracted when i started messing with the skin editor and created this

(I hate it when people make skins that don't resize and center ect. correctly, so that all works :))

When i get some more time I'll finish both of these off, but i need to kill my finals first.

 tl;dr Aero skin help + suggestions

Cheers and Thanks
Rob

Simply: You have to wait for 8Bit Alpha in Skins2. It isn´t sheduled nor developed(?).
Try the Advantage.VLC:Sky Skin.

Thanks for the response, I was wondering if it would be possible to make an add-on in Lua that could help achieve the desired Aero effect? or maybe I should look into doing something with AutoIt... :/
