I would like an interface with snapping windows

Postby fredphoesh » 03 Jun 2010 11:07

Hi there,

I love VLC for its speed, but really dislike the way the playlist is a separate window... it means moving two things instead of one when I want to move the app on the screen.

I have looked at many skins but they all seem to have separate and independent playlist windows... and none seem to snap together AFAIK.

If there are any skins that have snapped windows or even an integrated interface with playlist and cover art, please let me know...

Thanks!
Mark.

There is a mechanism in the skins system that allows windows to snap to each other. But I don't know how many skins implement that mechanism. The old default skin did for sure and most of the other skins I created do too. Cover art is not available to skins in the current version of VLC.

Hi, and thanks for the response.
That's very disappointing. I guess I will have to look elsewhere for my default MP3 player as cover art is imperative.
I wonder why after so many years of development is VLC so advanced in some ways, and the interface is still so crude and restricted.

Thanks anyway,
All the best,
Mark.

Maybe because there are quite few developers and most users complain about different problems, which thus receive a higher priority than improving the skins interface. But the next version of VLC will include cover art for skins, but then again it depends on the skin authors to implement that...

I have exactly the same problem. Looking for a playlist that sticks to the main window.

It's really frustrating to see that the media player with the best under-the-hood performance I could find for my system (Linux) suffers from a bad interface and is very inconvenient to use. I tried many of the skins, by neither of them have a full functionality of the unskinned interface (e.g. displaying the playlist with sub-folders). Also, many of them have their little glitches here and there. It doesn't help if there are a gazillion of these skins out there if they are not well maintained. Sure, they look cool. But I don't care so much about looks. I want functionality!
