skins2 on vectorLinux 6

Greetings All,
In vlc>tools>preferences>Interface type>Skins I tried to download some skins from the given link. I put them in /usr/share/vlc/skins2 .... although I'm not sure, if in fact, the files downloaded completely. I set vlc Interface type to open the new skin file in skins2.
A window popped up when trying to open vlc. File reading failed VLC could not open the file "/usr/share/vlc/skins2/text.bmp"After closing the pop-up window, a blacked-out rectangle appears on the desktop. Nothing but black-out! I'm assuming this is the default skin gone bad.

How can I correct this mis-configuration ? Oh, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling VLC but to no avail. Huh
I'm using vectorlinux 6.0 standard and the installed vlc pakage is 0.9.3-i586-1vl60.

vlc -I qt4 - this got me back where i needed to be. Thanks
