LCARS skin wip

G'day everybody,

I'm working on a LCARS (Star Trek) skin for VLC. I think most of the graphics are done now, but some things have yet to be decided, so I'd like to get some opinions and feedback.
First off, from what I gathered from the docs, some of the buttons in the minimal view can't be shaped as they are, e.g. not square. This really annoys me because the spinner is a characteristic of the LCARS design. So either I accept the partially clickable buttons, as illustrated in the third version, or I come up with a different, more square minimal layout. What do you think?
And second, I'm not sure yet about using symbols or lettering on the buttons (See minimal window). Lettering is more in style and is my favorite, but the current font isn't the right one.
Btw, these images are mockups, I haven't started on the XML yet.

Anyway, let me know what you think.

Try doing a seperate image for each button in the spinner, with the part not belonging to the shape being transparent. That should work.

I thought of that too, but the transparent part overlaps the other button, see image below. I haven't tried it yet (still setting up all images in the editor), but am I to understand that VLC ignores the transparent part of a button/image as clickable? Now that would be cool.

I think VLC does that, haven't tried it personally but would be logical.

I'll give it a try and let you know if that works. Opens up possibilities...
