Skins still make VLC crash

Since I do not seem the only person with this problem, I ask again:

How to make these VLC skins work ???

when I start vlc with the skinned interface, the only skin that works is miniMatrix. All other skins make vlc crash with the message:

vlc: symbol lookup error: vlc: undefined symbol: img_convert

I have read several posts about this error but found none with a solution.

Perhaps anyone can help?

According to this thread and this thread, the problem is due to a missing/bad installation of wxwidgets.

I have read both threads before but wxWidgets was already properly installed on my machine.
I know that the skins work on Mandriva 2008.0 but unfortunately there are no packages for openSuse in the VideoLan-repository that actually work with openSuse (at least according to the skin feature).

Any other ideas?
