REQ: A button on the UI for taking a snapshot

Postby Paros » 26 Jan 2007 05:30

I use the default UI and the VLC player mostly for real time streams.

By the time I move the mouse to the Video > Snapshot command the scene has changed.

Same thing with a keystroke for a snapshot -- VLC is usually not the current active window so it has to be selected first and then hit the keystroke, which is usually too time consuming for a live feed.

A button like the stop button right next to the volume fader would be great. It could be an option to show or not to show it in order to avoid cluttering up the default UI.

An even bigger improvement in usability would be to be able to start recording the stream with another button at a default directory and with a default encoding. I haven't found out all the capabilities of VLC yet but it looks like I have to specify the recording settings before the stream starts and I can't start/stop recording while the stream plays on.

Anyhow, just the button for a snapshot would be great help.

Thanks for listening :)
