Skins & Crashing

I had the same problem and deleted the custom config file and that fixed the crashing. I have my preferences set to use skins - it shows Last skin used C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\skins\itunes.vlt but when I start VLC it still doesn't use the skin. And now, when I make any change, I have to delete the config file or it crashes.

The "Last skin used" option is only used when the skins interface is loaded, to reopen the last skin you used (otherwise, if you are not using the default skin, you would have to change the skins every-time, which is not convenient). But this doesn't mean that the skins interface is loaded automatically, by default the wxWidgets one will be. To force it, go to preferences --> Interface --> Default interface module, and set it to "Skinnable interface".
As for the crash, it should definitely not happen. I advise you to try the 0.8.4-test2 release, or even a nightly build, to see if this is fixed in the newer versions.
Still does not work

Yes, I understand that - but when I do this, check that box - it shows skins2 - then when I load VLC it displays briefly on the screen, then closes.
I then delete the custom config file and it works again, but not skinned.

What version do you use? Did you try a more recent one to see if the problem is fixed?

- I've got the Same Problem on 0.84 test 4 (tested from 0.82 up to 0.84 test 4 = same error)
- i always have to delete the preferences file after setting skins2 as default interface, because vlc crahses. only option is to use the wxwidgets interface - skins2 definetivly doesn't work correct.
- and the strange thing: no problems if i use "C:\Programme\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe --intf skins"
- the above described problem only exist if you change the default interface.
i hope that the problem will be fixed in a future release...
