You may enjoy taking a look at the newest versions of the skins I've been working on for the last three years ...

They may look familiar to some of you, but I assure you, they're very different.
(I've put some new innovations into the coding of these skins)

There have been some small improvements made to the skins (about a dozen so far) since I started this topic.
I've temporarily removed the skin downloads from my web site to be relieved any any need to update there.
(The pages with the screenshots are still there)

OK ... I've finished the improvements and have uploaded the skins to my site.
They can now be directly downloaded again from there.

I'm not sure why this part of the forums has gone silent ...
perhaps listing some of my innovations will help.

INNOVATIONS:

1. A new way to maximize windows which allows any window to fully maximize even if it has a fixed width or height.
This new way to maximize also eliminates the hard coded vlc-maximize-anomaly.
(resize vlc, maximize window, close vlc, start vlc, restore window = anomaly)

2. The use of "undocumented" Boolean expressions which allow some buttons to be viewable and used under certain conditions.

3. A new way to use buttons to show a window, even if it's hidden behind another window.

4. A new way to go fullscreen with a video from "any" window and still retain the correct fullscreen size while maintaining fully operational "next" plus "previous" functions.

5. And, my personal favorite, a new way to show and hide the playlist tree.


There are actually quite a few more innovations, but this might be enough to get the ball rolling.

Oh, and for the creators of the WMP11_B, WIN VLC 11, Dalin Media Player and WMP11 ...
I resolved those pesky resizing width problems inherent with that particular layout style.
The toolbar, panel and playlist can now be fully resized without unusual behavior.

Thank you for the cleanly-designed skins, and for the innovations. I'm building a special-purpose skin and need 1-3 and 5 in your list, so I'll extract the skin files and see if I can follow what you've done. Any hints for a novice skin-maker would be much appreciated.

I only use conventional text and graphics editors and not the skin editor,
so, I'm not sure I can provide a "novice skin-maker" very helpful hints ...
But, I'll give it a try ...

Enter the correct sizes of your Bitmaps and SubBitmaps.
Make sure all the sizes fit into the space you place them.
Make sure the sum total of all the sizes fit into the space where you placed them.
Be sure to enter the correct path to the Bitmaps.
Make sure all Bitmaps, SubBitmaps and ID's have a unique name.

Check your work by entering vlc -I skins2 -v into a command prompt.

The Redux and Redux-Plus skins (Versions 9.25) just received a lot of innovative changes,
to make some of their functions even more thorough ...
