view cover art in custom skin

Postby skarck » 13 May 2010 16:07

Hi there,

i'm currently working on a custom vlc skin by using the pretty skin editor.
but i wonder how to display album art in my skin.

i tried to place a video-panel in the skin but no cover art was shown while testing.

thx in advance!

oh no, are you serious?
isn't there any xml-hack to do it???
i'd would be happy if theres a choice to display a jpg-file in the same directory as the mp3... nothing fancy...

:(

No, that's not possible with the skins system.

To skins developpers,

As a new feature (committed in the dev branch only, aka vlc1.2 ), art can now be used in skins

In a nutshell, it goes like this :

- a new 'art' parameter(boolean) is added to an Image control so that the skin engine can reuse the control to display the art file associated to the current item being played back. (default value is 'false').
- the 'resize' parameter can now be either 'scale', 'mosaic' or a new 'scale2' value for scaling while preserving the aspect
ratio of images. Image is centered and scaled either height or widthwise. Extra borders are transparent.

As an example, the default skin shipped with vlc has been changed to feature art display in the same way as it is done for the qt4 interface. The video widget and the art widget are located in the same place. The art is displayed if no video is available.

Feedbacks/requests welcome

Great news! :)

can you tell us when 1.2 will be released?
and are vlc player and skin editor updated simultanously?

I'll try to update the skin editor to match vlc.

vlc1.2 will take some time, (vlc1.1 is just about to be released)

But, at least for Windows users, latest nightly builds for vlc1.2 are available (http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/win32/last/) and are quite usable these days. This new 'art' feature can be tested right out of the box with the default skin.

Hi there,
currently I'm using the skin "DestroyVLC" and modified it a bit by use of the skin editor. Unfortunately it doesn't display the cover image. I tried to follow the instructions of Erwan10 but cannot find any parameter "art" in the skin editor, neither in "DestroyVLC" nor in the default skin. What am I doing wrong?
Best regards - Ulrich

Problem sorted out: I found the attribute "art" in the XML file of the default theme and added it in my custom theme. Works fine now.
