Skins - Alpha Channel Support

Postby MaJoR » 13 Apr 2010 15:01

I am a graphics designer and I use VLC alot. Best picture quality, small footprint, works great. I wanted to add some buttons and the like, maybe make a skin for it. But VLC doesn't have any alpha channel support! My skin theme idea relies on alpha channels, I can't really make it without it.

So, my request for VLC is to add alpha channel PNG support to skins. It is not the most critical thing for VLC to do, but it needs to be done eventually. If you add it, I can assure you, artists will use it.

- alpha channel = 0 or = 255 is always taken into account (control overlapping another control, or against the background)

- Alpha channel (1-254) may or may not be taken into account depending on the type of controls.
(For button/checkbox controls, alpha channel is taken into account when the control overlaps another control,
but not against the background)

I am referring to true alpha channel support. Think Vista Aero, minus the blur. Allowing a partial transparency against the OS environment, and not against a background color, other element in the image, or anything of the sort.

No, he wants ability in skins2 to have transparency of background images in skins2.

yes. I like this VERY much as well.
these days there are computers who are not so much caring about CPU (though bluray stays a bitch)
So, is there any way at all to use the transparency of PNG (like glow or opacity)?
this would be very helpfull, and would look more proffesional since opacity gets more normal with the day.
thanks in advance
