A request

Postby Kaseylol » 23 Feb 2010 00:10

I was curious if anyone would be so kind as to add a non-fullscreen video window to this skin: http://pixeez.deviantart.com/art/DNO-basic-112679740

I tried. I really did. I just do not get this skinning program and everything I tried didn't work. It doesn't have to have a GUI or anything; just an outline below the main window so I do not have to go into fullscreen.

If this is incredibly hard then I apologize; ignore me. To me there is no better skin and it saddens me that I cannot use it fully.

Thanks for your time.

edit: I unchecked "display skinned video if any," but it seems to be a temporary and not so visually pleasing fix. If only I could attach it to resize with the main window or something. This just sort of seperates vlc into two seperate programs; display and control.

Does anyone know if they are ever going to fix vlc for compatibility with older skins?

Hi,

- The "display skinned video if any" checkbox is indeed the parameter to uncheck so that skins with no Video tags can still benefit a windowed mode (Yes, it's a basic system window, probably not so pleasing, but what else can we offer ?)

- Adding a Video tag in theme.xml (.vlt file) (and reusing already available bitmaps to frame a nice window) is not that much of an endeavor. (see http://www.videolan.org/vlc/skins2-create.html). Also, this work can be done with any text editor, if you don't manage to install/use the vlc skinsEditor. Only requirement is probably a basic understanding of XML format.

You have that by using the checkbox. Then you have the behaviour that is exactly the way old skins worked, a unskinned, native video window was shown when no video control was in the skin.

That's not true at all. A certain version made it not work. At least that's what I read on this forum several times. I suppose I can go and find the several quotes but i'd rather you just know what I'm talking about.

Yes, there was a time after the video for skins2 rework, when the video window was not available at all to skins with no video element (0.9.something to 1.0.something). But now with this checkbox this is not anymore the case.

Have you ever actually used VLC prior to version 0.9 with skins, or even tried to do a skin with a video element at that time?

VLC has greatly progressed from there, so no complaining ;)

Who is complaining? I find it offensive you come in here and imply I am complaining as if I'm at fault here. You've informed me about how skins used to work - I'm sorry I'm not omniscient in the ways of vlc skins. No I have not used a skin prior to .9, but you can't honestly expect me to know exactly what every version of vlc and their skins do.

This alone is enough to make me switch to another player. All I was doing is asking for help; no need to be a pompous dick.
