Single user interface?

Postby pjn123 » 22 Sep 2008 16:15

Is it possible to create a vlc skin with the video window and playlist in the same window?

We're planning to create a template for a ClassicPro skin (http://cpro.skinconsortium.com) to work in vlc (Winamp skin atm)

Really hope this is possible ;)

If its not possible we'll probably settle for just the video window although this will be big setback (but we'll then hope it gets implemented in the future :D)

Also had an idea to just include the theme.xml file inside the normal Winamp zip skin file so that the skin is compatible with Winamp & vlc.

Can someone also point me to a skin that really demonstrate what vlc skinning is capable of?

For those who don’t know what ClassicPro is.... Its a sort of a template for modern skins for Winamp. We do all the coding at one central place inside Winamp so the skinner dont have to spend months coding the complicated sui sysytem and other stuff. Released a few months back and theres already 40+ high standard skins available for download. It use a very modern sui layout too. We at SkinConsortium (www.skinconsortium.com) is currently looking into porting it. Since all the graphics for cPro skins are in the same dimensions we just have to create on and all the other 40+ skins will instantly be compatible. We have loads of experience with Winamp xml+maki coding so we hope this wont be to hard to get into action :P

Yes it is. Though you might encounter some problems when using a video in a skin.

To see of what skins are capable you'd first have to read the documentation on the XML-makeup: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/skins2-create.html
If you have any questions or encounter problems, feel free to ask.

I had a short look on your skin system, and it seems to me that except the different tabs, the dropdown menus and the sound visualizations everything should be possible.

@aLtgLasS: Thanks for the info!
We'll then report back if we have any problems ;)

I guess that a beatvis wont be possible :D (custom animation)

The stuff you say that wont work was what I thought too but luckily the skin should still look 100% without it

There is no item in the skins system excepts the slider that could realize such a thing. And for the slider are missing the percentage variables of audio output to take values from.

It seems this is what I'm looking for.
Now, I'm using VLC for video and it's fine. But, it's not convenient for music. I prefer WinAMP style, main window and playlist snapped to it, and I can use "Modern" skin for that. But, when I load video, it's simply not shown with that skin. So, single user interface would be nice, if we mean that same.
Any news?
