Error when opening my skins

Postby mercurymorning » 23 Jan 2009 09:00

Well I wanted to create a skin for my daughter and I created one, I created one and when I test it it works fine. Then when I tried to export it to vlt, that went smooth, But when I tried loading the skin, It gives me an error.:
File reading failed:
VLC could not open the file "C:\Users\Mina\AppData\Local\Temp\vlt3\Ale\Volume Bar.png". (There's not even a vlt3 folder in my temp folder)
Ive tried creating the skin again with different names for both the file folder and the vlt extention as well as the info from the skin editor (I read something on here about doing that).. Still get the error. I get the same error on a skin I made for myself,, It isn't the hugest issue with mine, but hers is on a different computer and I want to be able to send it to her. Im still really new at this kind of stuff... But I'd really appriciate any help I can get.

Are you sure the VolumeBar.png is correctly in the vlt file?

The VLT is basically a zip or targz archive, rename it to zip and check whether the the file Ale/Volume Bar.png exists inside. If you have remove the volume slider make also sure that you've remove the bitmap reference to volume bar.png so that vlc does not complain about a missing file.

I did that and now its complaining about another missing file.... I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong,,, What i did do however that I'm not 100% sure is the best to do. I can't find the folder that the editor creates in the skin folder, I have to create a new folder to pull the images out of. I've tried both creating a new folder with the same name and a new folder with a different name, same results both times.

I GOT IT!!! :D

Here It said something about the folder being hidden in local data.... I found the folder and I worked only in it, and It worked and now my daughter is enjoying her New Skin... As well as me with mine. The vlt works great, no more missing files.... So it reads it on her computer as well.... j-b & aLtgLasS-You both are seriously awesome for helping me and for helping others as well,,, If it wasn't for your posts,, I wouldn't have gotten it and my daughter wouldn't have a skin to love!

Okay two of these have the utmost minimal options on them.
This is my own personal one.. I personally love having the video always on top of other windows, as I love watching movies while playing wow or messing with photoshop, which is why it doesn't have a frame. There's no equalizer or play list in this one at all....

My daughters, Minimal. She doesn't do much with it, and what she does do really can mess it up..
Image
My favorite that i really love... Unfortunately.. I'm still learning and somewhere in the curve and the tutorial, I messed up, so it doesn't re size, at all... And you have to close the file for it to not get a not responding error. Other then that, works awesome, and I think it's way cute.. I call it Glow

How exactly did you sort this problem out, cause I have the exact same problem. Ive just finnished the skin and when I set it as the skin in VLC, close it, and re-open it it says it cant find menu.png. I saw it was something to do with the app data file and you have to find something, so ive opened app data, but what exactly do I do to fix the problem?

What i did was create a new folder in C:/Users/Me/AppData/Local/VirtualStore/Program Files/VideoLAN/VLC/skins Then I opened the editor and created a new skin in that folder the same name as the folder. Then I moved the images to the folder I created.... Saved the vlc when i was done with it and poof. Worked... When it saves vlt it saves in that folder as well.... at least on mine it does

Easy way to prevent this is creating your skins in your own documents folder not in the program files folder, than vista won't put the files in the virtual store and you don't have any problems when exporting as VLT.
Or always run the skin editor as administrator, but that would have to be done before starting the skin.
