:? It's not a case of they don't work, they do. The problem that occurs is that once you change to a skin you can't seem to change to any other skin at all. I've tried numerous times and everytime I select a different skin and restart VLC it just reverts back to the skin I originally used. I hope there is a solution out there pretty soon as it is really frustrating and annoying (me at least).

EDIT - I've since uninstalled it and I checked the box to delete the cache and reinstalled it and I've now got the default skin again. It's not the solution but at least I won't use those skins again until I know they work fully.

I'm having the same problem. My work-around is:
Start -> VideoLan -> Quick Settings -> Interface -> Set Main Interface to Qt (default).

This will unload the skin and reset to default. You can load another skin now, but you'll have to repeat the above to unload the skin.

Any suggestions for a stable version to go back to? Or is there a dev version where this is fixed?

Ditto on that problem (vista x64) and WMP11 skin
I cannot revert settings without going to quick settings in the start programs videolan and selecting "Reset VLC Media Player Pref". Selecting Interface --> Default does not work.

The following command based on above works equally
"C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --reset-config
