New "electrix" skin

Postby black » 22 Sep 2008 07:29

Hey all,
Been awhile, like 5 yrs or so...about the time I took up nix and left windows in the dust!

Just upped a new skin called "electrix", and also upped a revision of "void" (long overdue). Was trying to remedy issues w skins functionality in linux, due to vlc code changes through the years.

Able to correct most issues (mostly aesthetics), but noticed some issues still remain. Been browsing the forum lately and seen many questions about wanted features, or inadequate functions, so, quess one needs to wait for the vlc-team to fix stuff.

Void was originally done in XP, its revision in "nix", and electrix also in nix...had to find a machine w windows to test out if both would work right, and they do. Hopefully the new skin and the revision of the old skin make it there o.k...for your consideration!

EDIT: OOPS! Went back to the skins site after awhile and noticed info on the "void-r1" update is wrong/missing, upped that one again. Does anyone know if re-updating the update will fix the "version info"/author name?

EDIT: Wow, what a surprise! Near 500 folks already grabbed "electrix" in less the 24 hrs. But, found some "phantom" boxes in the gui-graphics that only showed up on "bright displays, as seen on someone elses machine. My poor eyesight and display didn't show them at all.

My sincere appologies to all who've downed the electrix skin...so much for thoroughness! Have fixed the "phantom" issue and re-upped the file. Your response is much appreciated!

hey j-b,

The only issues are:
1) Never able to get the "fullscreen" main gui button to work in nix, tho works nicely when doubleclicking the vout window or using the context menu. The "button" does work in win32 however.

2) Alpha transparency was/is an issue when designing skins. From forum posts, appears this issue is high on the list.

This is not a complaint mind-u, there's always workarounds to make life interesting, but gives the feeling of "jury-rigging" on a skin project. Have been happy with "vlc" all these years and don't plan on vacating any time soon. Am pleased with what there is, and stuff usually gets better over time...cheers!

OK. I will try to give an eye on it... One day, but not soon. Sorry.
