Audio Distortion since 2.0.1 - VLC

Postby Karmanator » 26 Mar 2012 15:16

Hello,

I have just downloaded VLC player 2.0.1 and am currently experiencing heavy audio distortion with any audio file I play.

EDIT: video audio is also distorted.

Any advice on how to fix this issue would be appreciated.

Tried waveout, directx, and enabling equalizer, none of which solves the issue.

Yes, I installed 2.0.1 and now about once a minute I get a short 'burp' or 'fart' in the audio. I've tried all the fixes and nothing works yet. I am on W7-64.

I lowered the volume to 100% it it's ok now. Shall I assume this is a bug?

Hello. Remember that burp I reported when playing a video with VLC 2.0.1? Well, it may be a Windows 7 problem after all. I was watching a Youtube video, and I am getting the same burp, and I'm not aware that Youtube uses any of the Video Lan drivers or libraries or whatever (I could be mistaken, but I don't think so).
Guess I should search the Microsoft forums...

YouTube players are either Flash ones or ones from browser (HTML5 videos), no VLC is used.

Re: Audio Distortion since 2.0.1 - VLC solved

The cause of the audio distortion has come to light. Several of the newer HP computers (Elitebooks and Probooks) use something called the HP Power Assistant. The most current version of the Power Assistant is what is causing the audio burp, as well as occasional erratic keyboard behavior, because of conflicts with Microsoft Windows drivers. The solution is to downgrade to version 2.0.6.0 from version 2.1.0.6 (which is the troublemaker), or upgrade to a version more current than v2.1.0.6. Not a VLC problem at all!
