How Do I Restore File Associations to an Earlier Version?

Postby davescra » 26 Mar 2012 00:41

Hello, I have searched and read but I am stuck. I sure would appreciate an answer here. I had 1.1.11. Some videos played choppy so I fixed that by disabling loop filter and increasing the DVD cache. All was fine. Then I installed 2.0 and files were choppy again. I disabled loop filter but when I tried to find the dvd cache in the location where it was on 1.1.11, nothing was there at that location in 2.0. so I could not increase dvd cache. My files are associated with vlc 2.0. I want my files to be associated with 1.1.11 AGAIN. When I go into 1.1.11 to set assoctiations, all are greyed out and I can't check the "all" box. My files are stuck to 2.0 and I have choppiness again. How do I get rid of 2.0 and have 1.1.11 play my files? I uninstalled 2.0 but then all my files were associated with other programs and I could NOT set associations in 1.1.11 again. When I tried, vlc would crash every time. I restored my system so 2.0 is back but I really, really, want it gone and for 1.1.11 to play all my files again. Please, can somebody help me? I sure would very much appreciate any help! I hope I don't have to go back to WMP. Thank you anyone for your help!

Assuming you are running Windows, in Explorer, when you open a folder: select 'Tools', 'Folder Options', 'File Types'.

The list of file associations will display. For each VLC 2.0 type, use the 'Change' option to re-associate it with 1.1.11.

Thanks but for me, clicking tools in a folder (Win7) does not bring up anything about file types.
