Windows DLLHOST.exe excessive CPU util prob when VLC invoked

Postby SteveO » 23 Mar 2012 21:57

Ok - heres a good one... I was having persistent problems with excessive CPU utilization (~50%) by a Windows7 process "dllhost.exe". Postings I found on the web were numerous but none seemed to present a legitamate resolution... I kept killing the process but it kept returning and then kicking into high utilization sapping my PC... I struggled to figure out what was triggering this - but finally realized it was VLC! DOES NOT seem to be version dependant. I have used VLC on numerous other systems w/o this problem as have others, and I dont see anything significant posted on VideoLan forums so apparently this hasnt come up terribly much with others... At this point though it would seem that some resource that VLC uses kicks off this problem which is connected to my particular configuration - perhaps the version of something-or-other...

Is anyone aware of this issue or have any ideas pls let me know.

Thx.

What does tool called Process Explorer say about the situation?
