I used VLC 1.1.11 previously on a windows XP system.
I have my laptop connected to a 27" screen to view videos.
I used to do it fullscreen on that seconadry 27" screen without any problem.

Today I've just upgraded to 2.0.1 and if I run any video fullscreen on the 27" monitor, playback it is jerky. If I run fullscreen on the laptop screen, it's ok, very smooth. If I run 'windowed' on the secondary screen, is smooth, but when I double click to fullscreen playback gets jerky.

Configuration of multiple screens in nvidia control panel is Dualview (configured independantly, laptop at 1440x900 and 27" screen at 1920x1080)

How can I solve it?

You can try to use a different video output in preferences.
Sharing some logs would help us too.

It worked!
However that's not the optimal solution, since the 27" screen is only for video playback and I don't work on it, primary device should keep being the laptop screen.
Anyway, I'll keep changing secondary to primary until the real problem is amended (which I suppose it will in future VLC updates).

That will most likely take a long time, since we have no clue why this happens.

I have a similar issue with 2.0.1. I don't know if this may give any clues to the devs but it seems to only be an issue when the full screen control bar is showing. When the control bar is hidden things return to normal - or at least a lot better. It's not a big problem for me but it might give a clue to the cause.

I am running a Dell Optiplex desktop using the onboard Intel 4 Series video controller to a single monitor. XP Pro SP3.

Force DirectX video output in preferences.

Following your reply I have done some more testing. I can't see any way of forcing DirectX - there is an option for different DirectX display devices which I have tried adjusting and it makes no difference. I have however found a reliable way of producing the fault.

If (in full screen) you put the mouse over the video control panel and move the pointer (without clicking the mouse) up and down the timeline it makes the video go really bad. Much more "jerky" with occasional long pauses and pixellation. I have tested it on wmv, mov, and dvd (ie vob/ifo) files and it happens on all of them. I have also tested it on my desktop and laptop - again it happens on both.

The only difference I can remember from the previous version ( I don't have it installed any more so I can't be sure) is that the control panel is now transparent, and the time is displayed in a flag just above the timeline when the mouse is moved along it. Maybe another clue to the cause?

It would be interesting to see if anyone else can reproduce a similar effect.

Ok. I have never been deep into the options before - I did't realise there were so many!

Interesting results though. The original opacity of the control panel was 0.8. If I set it to 1 the problem goes away - or at least if it is there I can't see it. If I set it to 0.5 it seems to get much worse - the video will freeze completely while moving the mouse.

So it does seem to be related in some way to the opacity setting. Setting it to 1 (for me at least) fixes the problem.

For anyone else who wants to try it:
Open the Tools/Preferences dialog.
Click on the Show Settings/All radio button.
Go to the Interface/Main Interfaces/Qt node in the options tree.
The seventh option on that screen is the Fullscreen Controller opacity. Set it to 1.

I found you had to restart the program for the change to take effect.

Ive tried this but its still jerky/choppy. Not as bad but still >.< Anyone found away to completely correct this issue? If so please clearly post the steps to correct it. Thank you!

Same as the above suffering with Stuttering video, tried suggested options with no joy and had a play with setting till i lost the will to live and rolled back to last stable version... Again!!
