I have a Windows Vista version and I was using the 1.1.10 version is it worked perfectly including the snap shots or screen shots or still frames. Yesterday I uploaded the 2.01 version and I removed the 1.1.10 before installing the 2.01. And then I installed the 2.01 but when I tried the snap shot it doesn't work. I use the snap shot all the time and I'm really lost with this option. Do anyone know how to restore this option. This is the message I get:

Streaming / Transcoding failed:
VLC could not open the encoder.

I'm not computer smart so I would like this to be in an answer I can understand.

Try deleting VLC's preferences and cache files. To do this go to (enter into the Windows Explorer address bar and press Enter):
%appdata%

And delete the "vlc" folder. Then open VLC and try out snapshots etc.

By default snapshots should still be stored in you Pictures/My Pictures folder.
