Forced width of video window in VLC 2

Postby Butcho » 21 Mar 2012 10:44

Hi,

i got a small problem with VLC 2 and maybe someone can help me out:

I force the width of the video window to 225 px to have a small window on the upper right corner of my screen (using the advanced options ---> Video Settings) that shuffles my playlist while i´am working on my PC. In all the previous versions of VLC this worked really nice and without problems. This morning i installed the new VLC 2 and now the width of the window only stays at 225 px for the first video that is played. The next video (and all the other ones in the playlist) will be scaled to half the size of my screen. Strange problem.

I used the "Reset all preferences and cache"-Button and tried my settings again, but always the same problem. First video forced, all others scaled. I downgraded to VLC 1.1.11 and everything is fine again.

Maybe it´s a bug, i dunno. :-)

Hi,

the playback controls are seperated from the playback window and the X and Y coordinates of the window are set to 0 so that the playback window is exactly in the upper right corner. I used exactly the same settings as in the old VLC-Version...but these are not working in the new version.

Code: Select all

vlc --width=128 --height=128 1.mpg 2.mpg
that works fine in here. Are there some additional settings you use?

Ok, here are some screenshots and a small video so you can see what i´am talking about. ^^

These are the settings i use to put the playback window in the upper left corner.

And the video:

As you can see in the video the first file plays fine with the fixed width of 225 px. As soon as the next one starts playing the window scales to a much bigger size. That never happend in the old VLC-Versions. All the videos stayed exactly at a width of 225 px only the height was scaled because of the setting "-1" . But thats ok for me as long as it stays at the desired width. ^^

Thanks for your help. :)

So finally a new VLC-Version 2.0.2 with a lot of fixes. Too bad that the weird behaviour with the window size is still there. :?

Any chance that this is going to be fixed in the near future?

Maybe a little hint if this will pop up on your to-do-list?

Yes, i know....i may be the only person in the world who uses VLC like this, ^^ but this is really annoying. And i don´t wanna miss my videos in the upper left corner while i´am working so i still use the old VLC-Version.

Man, i´d be so happy to use the new VLC 2...really. ;-)

Hi,
I can confirm the same problem in version 2.0.2:
"Video width" and "Video height" from "Window properies" are IGNORED, playing (in non-"Embedded Video" mode) a playlist, that contains files with different video resolutions. VLC plays these files (starting with the second item) in their original video dimensions.
At least some workaround is: stop playback of the current file and then play it again.

You're not alone, Butcho -)

Good to know that. ^^

Maybe this is going to be fixed in one of the next updates. Who knows...

New VLC 2.0.4 is out and still no fix for this strange behaviour. :? Is it so hard to fix or is it just not on the list of the developers priorities?

I´d love to use the new VLC but still have to use 1.1.11 because of this bug. :(

Nope, I tried the latest version and still no fix for this. Right now I use the latest release from version 1 and in the meantime I lost hope that this is ever gonne be fixed. Too sad that this seems not that important to the developers, guess I have to use vlc 1.1 a little bit longer.
