VLC 2.0.1 Problems

2.0 worked fine. 2.0.1: The video starts out pixelated, then gets ok. The video jogs into slow motion at the end of the video file. The audio is out of sync and it breaks up throughout the video. The video play is set on default. Nothing else helps. The audio is set on win32 output. Everything else is worse. I used system restore to go back to 2.0, but then 2.0 has the same problems. Thanks.

Don't use system restore. It doesn't do any good. You can reset VLC settings by removing %appdata%\vlc folder.

I've searched and search but I can't find that folder. Thanks.

Never mind. I finally found a place that would download the real 2.0 instead of 2.0.1 and downloaded it and everything is fine again. Thanks.

I've just downloaded VLC 2.0.1 to replace VLC 1.1.11. I couldn't play any of my video files anymore because its pixelated all throughout. I've reinstalled VLC 1.1.11 and it plays my video files fine as usual. I've uninstalled and reinstalled VLC 2.0.1 several times with the same undesired effect.

Same for me, kogiks. My 2.0 still played a few videos herky-jerky, but when I reinstalled 1.1.11 EVERYTHING is perfect.

I have the same or similar issues. "Downgraded" to 1.1.11 and everything is resolved.

I also have a post about this on the "VLC 2.0 final doesn't play HD videos propely" thread. Issue occurs in both VLC 2.0 and 2.0.1.

Hello,

have similar problems on my win xp, celeron, video card "Via / S#G unichrome pro IGP" and some more.
Downgraded to 1.1.9 and all the problems are gone.

Problems that occuring are "Total" / nearly 100% use of the processor and vertical lines on the screen.
The size of the movie is one of the parameter in (time before something happens) witch the pc reacts to command given by mouse or keyboard.

Made some prtscr with the 2.0.1 problems and and with the 1.1.9 version.

You ask for a log, where can i find it?

Gr.

I was going to start a new thread, but I think my problem is almost the same as those posted here.

The short summary of the problem: version 2.01 cannot smoothly play 59.94 progressive MTS files from my Sony CX700V camcorder, whereas version 1.1.11 (The Luggage) plays them without jerks.

The longer version:

My computer is a 3.2 MHz (stock) Intel i7 with an nVidia GeForce 9800GT video card. I am running Windows XP Pro 32-bit. The video is the unaltered MTS file from the Sony CX700V which is a "60p" (59.94 progressive) 1920x1080 video file. The video is being shown, full-screen at the native resolution of my Samsung LCD display (1680x1050). Playback is smooth, with no drops, using 1.1.11, but stutters and stops with version 2.01. I have tested with other files from different camcorders, and most HD progressive AVCHD files show the same problem, so this is not limited to just this camcorder.

I saw several posts asking for LOG files, but when I enabled logging, VLC did not create any files. I assume this is due to the fact that nothing is crashing. I did, however, go to the Media Information and copy some of the information:

Type: Video
Original ID: 4113
Codec: H264-MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (h264)
Resolution: 1920x1080
Frame rate: 119.880119 <--- WHAT THE HECK IS THIS??? the video is 59.94 fps progressive

Type: Audio
Original ID: 4352
Codec: A52 Audio (aka AC3) (a52)
Channels: 3F2R/LFE
Sample Rate: 48000 Hz
Bitrate: 448 kb/s

When playing from 1.1.11, it shows no video or audio frames lost. I no longer have 2.01 installed, so I don't know how many blocks were dropped/lost, but it had to be a LOT.

What would be GREAT is that developers do not use us as beta testers... back to version 1.x or find something better.

I'll try installing 2.0.1 again next week when I'm back on my main computer and try your suggestion as well as the other suggestions (about reducing threads) that I found at the Wiki you linked to.

Thanks!

Developers and testers are volunteers. If noone tests during the development time, end user are the ones testing...

I have a bad audio stuttering problem that makes the audio skip and echo continuously on all videos:

main warning: buffer way too late (392594), dropping buffer
This goes on and on.

I'm running XPSP3 on a 2.2 GHz dual core Opteron. The problem goes away when I manually set the processor affinity of VLC to either one of the cores. If both are used, the problem returns. This didn't happen on 1.xx that I upgraded from, which seemed to use only one processor core.

Edit: chancing the processor affinity while playing the video causes the video to start skipping as well, but everything goes back to normal when only one CPU core is used.

Eikka: the FFMPEG threads option also works?

Eikka: the FFMPEG threads option also works?
http://wiki.videolan.org/WindowsFAQ-2.0 ... r_laggy.29
It defaults to two threads. Changing it to 1 or 0 (automatic) didn't have much effect, but setting it to 4 made it skip much worse, causing the video to skip as well with "picture too late (xxx ms)" warnings, and the sound plays at the wrong speed, giving me the chipmunks effect. The only thing that works so far is forcing VLC to run on only one CPU core.

This is what it sounds like: http://koti.mbnet.fi/jeti/skippingsample.mp3

At 30 seconds, I changed the processor affinity of VLC to CPU 0 and the last 10 seconds play without a hitch.

If anyone else has the same problem, I used the Windows Task Manager to select vlc.exe from the process list and with a right click, "Set affinity...". The problem is that you have to keep doing this every time you restart VLC.

I changed the audio output module to WIN32 WaveOut, which largely solved the skipping issue. There's only a couple skips left at the beginning of the video, and a few lagging frames randomly throughout.

Here's the log with two threads on two cores with WaveOut for audio:
main debug: Received first picture
direct3d debug: Created 224x17 texture for OSD
main debug: Post-processing available
main debug: Decoder buffering done in 332 ms
waveout debug: Wakeup sleeping output thread.
waveout debug: will start to play in 17272 us
main debug: audio output is too slow (200826 us): trashing 92879 us
main debug: audio output is too slow (107947 us): trashing 92879 us
main debug: audio output is too slow (15068 us): trashing 92880 us
waveout warning: aout_PacketNext no buffer got next_date=1073978795 ms, 7 frames to play, waiting...
main debug: auto hiding mouse cursor
main debug: picture might be displayed late (missing 5 ms)
main debug: picture might be displayed late (missing 10 ms)
main debug: picture might be displayed late (missing 12 ms)
main debug: picture might be displayed late (missing 8 ms)
main debug: picture might be displayed late (missing 5 ms)
main debug: picture might be displayed late (missing 7 ms)
main debug: auto hiding mouse cursor
main debug: picture might be displayed late (missing 6 ms)
main debug: EOF reached
Close, but no cigar. There's also the additional problem that now I can only get plain stereo out instead of 5.1. Only the two front speakers actually play anything, whereas with DirectX output I get sound coming though all speakers.

Does it skip less with OpenGL video output module?

The audio is largely unaffected. It still skips, maybe a little more.
The video skips much more. It feels like the whole computer skips slightly with the video. Typing on the keyboard seems to have a slight lag every time I hear a skip.
Setting the CPU affinity to one core again fixes the problems and both video and audio play normally.

The video card on this machine is a Radeon HD5770 using the Catalyst 10.8 driver package.

I get a split screen, in black and white.
Any ideas how to fix it?
