VLC 2.0 doesn't produce video output

Upgraded to VLC 2.0 today, only to find that it wouldn't produce video output. It doesn't properly show the graphical parts of a movie, or display visualisations .It plays audio files or the audio parts of a movie normally, though. For example, on playing a MP4 file, this is what I get:

Is there a way to fix it, or is it because my computer is severely underpowered (Pentium 4 1.8 Ghz, 1.13 GB RAM)? On a Win XP SP3 installation.

The debug log can be found here: http://pastebin.com/D6JytWhw
</update>
Thanks in advance.

Video drivers --please stay polite-- up. Can you update them or try a different video output?

DirectX : better quality but eats ~=80% CPU
Windows GDI : worse quality but eats ~= 60% CPU

For some reason unknown, the videos appear too dark, and VLC consumes a lot of memory and CPU (these 2 problems weren't there in 1.1.9)

Try OPenGL.
Because this:
direct3d debug: Direct3DImportPicture:1172 (hr=0x8876086C)
seems very wrong.

OpenGL? VLC hanged badly, very very badly. I had to to a hard reboot as no program (even Task Manager) worked.

No logs could be collected for the same reason.

You are going to have issues with that one. Intel does very poor GPU drivers.

DirectDraw is your best bet.

Can you try a build for me?

I have also encountered display issues, after being invited to upgrade to VLC 2.0.1.

Version 1.1.19 worked fine.

When can we expect a debugged current version build that will properly display mp4 video?

Thanks,

DirectX and WinGDI VOUTs should work in VLC 2.0.x and today JB patched the D3D detection, so if your display adapter driver doesn't support certain stuff, the D3D VOUT isn't used.

Are you on XP with display issues all the time?

I've had the same problems since upgrading to 2.0.1. Before the upgrade it would play anything, now nothing.
