Autorun/Autoplay still opening with Windows Media Player

Postby merlin silk » 22 Feb 2012 10:15

I had this all working with VLC 1.x but after upgrading to VLC 2 I have the following problem:
When I double click a DVD or Virtual Drive with a video DVD inserted or mounted, I still have windows media player starting. When I insert a DVD (or mount on the virtual drive) the disk starts to play in VLC, so it appears Autoplay is set correctly. This is also confirmed when selecting "open autoplay' from the drive's context menu - set to VLC.
Now I have no idea what I can do to set my my windows 7 home premium machine to use VLC when double clicking a drive with a video DVD inserted.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Merlin

Is the "open autoplay' only bolded item in that menu?

No, Play is the first and bolded option on the DVD drive when a DVD is inserted. 'open autoplay' is just a lot further down and not bolded.

Uninstall and reinstall VLC with the options "Discs playback" and all file associations enabled.

You have to disable that from WMP or from registry.

I ended up editing the DVD settings in the registry: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\DVD\shell\play\command] set to
"C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --started-from-file dvd:///%1
Now the default action for the "Play" in the context menu for a drive with a DVD inserted plays the dvd with VLC.
VLC_help - this is what you might have intended with your cryptic remark, and if so, where and how would have
been helpful. This is why I add my own findings here, in case somebody else stumbles into this problem.
flurospar - thanks, I considered that but hacking the registry was faster and I thought I already had all functions given
to VLC when I installed it.
