Having problems with VLC 2.0.0 (video stutters)

Hi there,
I upgraded to VLC 2.0.0, but immediately noticed video stuttering of regular MP4 files (haven't tried anything else).
The previous VLC 1.9.1. works perfectly fine, no stuttering, super smooth playback.
It can't be a HW problem (though one can never say for sure), my pc specs: dual Xeon E5620, 24GB of RAM, nVidia GTX 580, tons of SSD drives (no platters).
Windows 7 Professional x64 (English).
Codecs: Shark007's codec pack + 64bit components
Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

Can you share the logs: tools->messages set verbosity to 2 then start playback.

Decrease your threads number to 4 in preferences.

Sorry, but where exactly do I find these settings?
Under advanced > CPU Features, there's only a blank pane. No settings to be tweaked.

i hv the very same problem. im on asus k53sv i5-2410m, intel hd3000, nvidia gt-540m 2gb.
the one thing i noticed that once i rename the vlc.exe to a different name in order to ba able to use nvidia gpu for video playback (by default the video playback is limited to intel hd3000 for whatever reason ) sometimes i get 70% gpu utilization, super smooth playback excellen rendering quality, but in most cases i get 17-25% gpu utilisation video stutterin, pixelization etc.
when i use the default nvidia driver settings where i can only use vlc with intel hd-3000, i get supersmooth playback, but the rendering quality is much worse than on nvidia so i would prefer nvidia to use.
the messages i get are the same as posted under the link
http://www.duber.cz/dump/playbackLog.txt .
as i went to advanced cpu features, empty menu no settings can be changed. pls assist.
rgds,
p0rt3r

UPDATE:
changed video output to OPENGL. Now issue seems to be resolved and more to that, CPU and GPU utilization are lower and supersmooth playback. I will test with a couple of videos different formats and post my experiences.
Rgds,

Unfortunately this doesn't help me.

Use the search box in preferences to search threads, so you find the FFmpeg module.

Thank you! That seems to have done the trick!

Yes, I set it to 4 as you suggested and now everything plays smoothly.
Thank you again!

Same thing for me, i changed the output to OpenGL and suddenly it's fine. Before it was freezing when i went to full-screen and suffered terrible lag if i increased the window size or maximized the window.

Well, it certainly is not, since the previous 1.1.11 worked just fine without any lag. Then suddenly 2.0.0 fresh install, deleted preferences and caches, reinstalled codecs - lags like crazy.

I will find a solution/work-around for 2.0.1

Can you try to reset the ffmpeg thread to 0 and increase the file-caching value? from 300 ms to something like 500/600 ms

HA! That also works! Threads to 0 and caching increased to 2000 (even 600 did the job) plays smoothly. Thank you!

so i found out what it was..... so stupid really.... wasnt the players or codecs or anything. My tv is a newer generation samsung, about 2 years old, and it has that 240mhz refresh. well it was set on smooth and clear, I never checked just standard setting. works so beautifully now. sorry for your stuttering in vlc, but i dont think its worth it compared to wmp. its just so easy and i dont use any of the complicated settings in it. good luck to those in need.
